Title I Education
Title I (Education Consolidation and Improvement
Act-ECIA P.L. 97-35) is part of the ESEA
Act first passed by Congress in 1965. Its
purpose is to provide and operate programs
in high poverty areas, for children who
need extra educational assistance to
perform at the level for his/her age
and grade level. Funds are distributed
to Title I schools for additional personnel,
the purchase of materials and supplies,
and staff development opportunities.
