      Amount: $2,000 ($1,000 goes to the student, and $1,000 goes to the school/teacher)
      Details: Students must be 18 years old to enter.  Parents or guardians may enter on a
      student’s behalf.    
      Deadline: Sept. 30

 2. American Foreign Service Association

      Amount: First place winner receives $2,500, second place $1,250 and third place $750.
      Details: To enter, students must write an essay that is 750-1,000 words on the topic
      provided on the Web site.  Students whose parents are members of United States
      Foreign Service are not eligible.  
      Deadline: Entries must be postmarked by March 1.

 3. American Legion
      Scholarship name: American Legacy Scholarship

      Amount: varies based on availability of funds
      Details: This scholarship is for children of military personnel who were killed during
      active duty.  Applications can be found online.  
      Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by April 15.

  4. American Legion
      Scholarship name: Oratorical Contest Scholarship

      Amount: Awards range from $1,500 on the local level to $18,000 on the national level.
      Details: Contact local American Legion for details and more information.  

  5. Apple
      Scholarship name: Apple Scholars

      Amount: $2,000 and a new Mac
      Details: This scholarship is for college bound high school seniors who have incorporated
      technology into their schoolwork in an innovative way. Entries are accepted online only.
      Deadline: May 30

      Amount: $2,500
      Details: Applicants are judged on academic achievement, leadership, community service
      and extracurricular activities.  Only AutoZone employees and their dependents are
      eligible for this scholarship.  

 7. AXA Financial
      Scholarship name: AXA Achievement Scholarship

      Amount: State winners receive $10,000, and national winners receive an additional
      $15,000 and internship offer.
      Details: Register on the Web site to receive scholarship materials once they become
      available.

 8. The Ayn Rand Institute 
      Scholarship name: Anthem essay contest

      Amount: Prizes range from $30 to $2,000.
      Details: This contest is open to all students in 9th and 10th grade.  To enter, students
      must read Ayn Rand’s novelette Anthem and write an essay on one of the topic
      provided on the Web site.  The essay should be 600-1,200 words.
      Deadline: March 20

 9. The Ayn Rand Institute 
      Scholarship name: Fountainhead essay contest

      Amount: Prizes range from $50 to $10,000.
      Details: This contest is open to all students in 11th and 12th grade.  To enter, students
      must read Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead and write an essay on one of the topics provided
      on the Web site.  The essay should be 800-1,600 words.
      Deadline: April 27

10. Best Buy

      Details: Recipients are chosen based on community service, academic record, and
      response to an essay question.
      Deadline: Applications are accepted Jan. 1 – Feb. 15 of each year.  

11. Burger King

      Details: To be eligible, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, work part-time,
      demonstrate financial need and participate in community service and/or
      extracurricular activities.  Applications for the current program will be available in
      October.

12. Chevrolet
      Scholarship name: Excellence in Music Awards

      Details: This scholarship is for African American students who plan on majoring in
      music and pursuing a music-related career.  Students must have at least a 3.2 GPA.
      Deadline: Application must be postmarked by April 16.


13. Chick-fil-A
      Scholarship name: Employee Scholarship Program

      Details: Only employees of Chick-fil-A are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  The top 
      25 Leadership Scholarship recipients will also receive an additional $1,000 S. Truett
      Cathy Scholar award.

      Scholarship name: Tribute Award Scholarship Program

      Amount: State winners receive $2,500, and national winners receive $25,000.
      Details: This scholarship is for high school juniors only.  To be eligible, students must
      have a minimum 2.75 GPA and demonstrate community involvement and leadership
      skills.  In addition, students must have also faced a significant challenge.

      ID number to enter for a chance to win a scholarship.

17. Fleet Reserve Association
      Scholarship name: FRA Americanism Essay Contest

      Amount: The top four essays are awarded prizes of $2,000, $3,000, $5,000 and $15,000.
      Details: To enter, students must write a 350-word essay on the designated topic.  Each

      Ladies Auxiliary.

      Details: GM sponsors several scholarships.  Visit the Web site for a complete listing,
      program details and contact information.


19. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

      Amount: $1,000 - $2,500
      Details: This site lists several scholarships that are available to graduating high school
      seniors who are of Hispanic heritage and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students must
      be continuing their education in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college or
      university. To be considered for an award, students must also apply for federal
      financial aid.
      Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 15.

20. Holland+Knight Charitable Foundation Inc.
      Scholarship name: Holocaust Remembrance Project

      Amount: up to $10,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
      Details: Essays can be written on any aspect of the Holocaust that interests students.
      Entries should be submitted through the Web site.

21. Jane Austen Society of North America

      Details: To enter, students must read the Jane Austen novel that is chosen by the
      committee and then prepare an essay on one of the topics provided.

22. Kaplan/Newsweek
      Scholarship name: My Turn Essay Contest

      Amount: up to $5,000
      Details: Entry forms can be found online.  To enter, students are required to submit
      a 500 to 1,000-word personal essay on any topic.

23. Kohl’s  
      Scholarship name: Kids Who Care

      Amount: Local winners receive a $50 Kohl’s gift card, regional winners receive $1,000
      and national winners receive $5,000.
      Details: This scholarship is based solely on community service.  
      Deadline: Nomination forms are available in stores or online Feb. 1 – March 15.

24. Learn and Serve America
      Scholarship name: Presidential Freedom Scholarship

      Amount: $500
      Details: The Presidential Freedom Scholarship is a matching funds program based on
      completion of at least 100 community service hours.  To qualify for this scholarship,
      students must obtain another scholarship worth at least $500.  Students must be
      nominated through their school.  Independent applications are not accepted.


25. McDonald’s
      Scholarship name: National Employee Scholarship Program

      Amount: $1,000
      Details: Only McDonald’s employees are eligible for this scholarship.  Applicants
      must have worked at McDonald’s for at least four months.
      Deadline: The program opens Jan. 1, and applications are due March 1.

 

26. Scholarship name: Outstanding Students of America

      Amount: $1,000
      Details: To be eligible, students must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and be active in their
      school and/or community.  In addition to the applications, students must write an essay
      (one page, double spaced), describing why the need or deserve the scholarship.   
      Applications can be found on the Web site.       
      Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 15.

27. Peterson’s
      Scholarship name: Imagine America Scholarship

      Amount: $1,000
      Details: Schools can select up to three students to receive an Imagine America
      scholarship.  To be eligible, students must have a 2.75 GPA, demonstrate financial need
      and participate in community service activities.  Students must be attending an eligible
      career school.
      Deadline: Oct. 31

28. Prudential
      Scholarship name: Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

      Amount: State honorees receive $1,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C.
      for a recognition ceremony. National winners receive $5,000.
      Details: This award is based on service to the community.  To be eligible, the student
      must have completed an individual community service project within the 12 months
      prior to applying for the award.  Applications can be found on the Web site.   
      Deadline: Oct. 31

29. SAE International

      Details: SAE International sponsors several scholarships to students studying
      engineering and related fields.  See Web site for details on specific scholarships.  This
      scholarship requires a $5 processing fee.

30. Scholastic

      Amount: $200 to ten third-place winners, $1,500 to five second-place winners and
      $15,000 to two first-place winners
      Details: Students must write a two-page (500 words) essay and complete the entry form
      found on the Web site.  Check Scholastic’s Web site for essay topic.    
      Deadline: March 10

31. Scholastic
      Scholarship name: Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

      Details: This program recognizes outstanding student writers and artists.  Visit the Web
      site for entry form, official rules, portfolio requirements and deadlines.  All 7-12 grade
      students are eligible to apply.

32. School Band and Orchestra
      Scholarship name: Music Student Scholarships

      Amount: $1,000
      Details: This contest is open to all music students in grades 6-12.  To enter, students
      must write an essay on the topic provided online.  (New topics are posted on the Web
      site every year on Sept. 1.)

      Scholarship name: Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship Program

      Amount: $1,200
      Details: This scholarship is based on financial need, leadership, academic achievement,
      community involvements and student’s potential.  The student must be planning to
      enroll in an accredited two or four-year program at a college, university or
      technical/vocational school.  
      Deadline: Applications will be available on Oct. 1.

35. Society of Women Engineers

      Amount: Scholarships start at $1,000.
      Details: Various scholarships are offered to upcoming engineering majors.  See the Web

      Details: To enter, students must take a 15-20 minute online survey about local
      colleges.  Winners are drawn from all students who complete the survey.

37. SunTrust
      Scholarship name: Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes

      Amount: $1,000 scholarship and a $250 gift card
      Details: All high school seniors are eligible for this program.  Students can register on
      the Web site beginning Sept. 15.  Drawings are held every two weeks starting Oct. 31.
      Deadline: May 11

38. Tennessee PTA

      Amount: $1,000
      Details: This scholarship is for students who plan on becoming a teacher or working in a
      child-related field.  Applicants must also demonstrate financial need and be attending a
      Tennessee college or university.  Applications are sent to all high schools.  See a
      guidance counselor for more details. 

39. TVA
      Scholarship name:  TVA Employee Dependent Scholarship Program

      Amount: $5,000 per year for up to five years
      Details: This program is open only to dependents of TVA employees.  Applicants are
      judged on academics, community involvement, extracurricular activities and an essay.  

40. Two Ten Footwear

      Amount: up to $15,000
      Details: Two Ten offers scholarships to students who have worked in the footwear,
      leather or allied industries at least 500 hours in the year prior to applying.  Students
      whose parents have worked in one of these industries for at least two years are also
      eligible.  To be eligible, students must also demonstrate financial need.  Before receiving
      a scholarship application, students have to complete a preliminary application online.   
      Deadline: Jan. 27

41. Tylenol

      Details: To be eligible, students must be pursuing careers in healthcare.  Applicants are
      judged on their academic record and leadership qualities.  Apply for this scholarship
      through the Web site.

42. United States Institute of Peace
      Scholarship name: National Peace Essay Contest

      Amount: $1,000 - $10,000
      Details: All students who are in grade 9-12 are eligible to apply.  To enter, students must
      write an essay that is 1,500 words or less.  Essay topics can be found online.  Students
      can also request to have materials mailed to their home by filling out a brief form on
      the Web site.
      Deadline: Feb. 1

43. UPS
      Scholarship name: James E. Casey Scholarship Program

      Amount: $2,000 - $6,000 per year up to four years
      Details: Only children of UPS employees are eligible for this scholarship.  Applicants
      must be going to a four-year degree program at a college or university.  For more
      information, the UPS employee should visit UPSers.com.
     
44. UPS
      Scholarship name: George D. Smith Scholarship Program

      Amount: $500 - $2,000 per year
      Details: Only children of UPS employees are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants
      must be enrolling full time in a two-year program that will result in an associate’s
      degree or certification.  The UPS employee should visit UPSers.com for details.

45. USA Today
      Scholarship name: All-USA Academic Teams

      Amount: $2,500
      Details: This scholarships recognizes students who not only have a good academic
      record but also do projects outside the classroom that will benefit society.  Students can
      only be nominated by the faculty and staff from their own high school.  Nomination
      forms can be found online.  
      Deadline: The contest ends in mid-February.

      Scholarship name: Sam Walton Community Scholarships

      Details: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, demonstrate financial need and
      show proof of ACT or SAT scores.  Wal*Mart employees and their immediate relatives
      are not eligible for this scholarship.

      Scholarship name: Associate Scholarship

      Amount: $2,000
      Details: This program is open to Wal*Mart associates who have worked at Wal*Mart
      for one year or longer.  Applicants must have a minimum ACT score of 18 (800 SAT)
     and demonstrate financial need.

      Details: This program is open only to the children of full-time Wal*Mart associates.
