Steps to LearningEighth Grade Health

The overall goal of health is to introduce students to basic knowledge and skills needed to establish healthy living habits and personal healthcare, and to recognize the availability of community health providers. In the Eighth grade health focuses on personal choices and how they impact a person's total health.

Students will:
  • explain the impact of personal health behaviors on the body systems.
  • formulate a physical activity plan.
  • compare and contrast a consumer health product and/or service.
  • evaluate personal food choices and discuss eating disorders and media influences.
  • demonstrate decision making skills that support good personal health including role playing and refusal skills.
  • understand the relationship between sexual activity and risk of infection of communicable disease.
  • research healthcare centers.
  • examine the effects of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use and the consequences to one's self, family, and society.
  • evaluate high risk situations and personal safety precautions.
  • demonstrate first aid procedures and identify emergency resources.
