First Grade Music

First grade students study verse and melody in addition to creating patterns using rhythm and a steady beat on pitched and unpitched instruments.

Students will:

• independently perform steady beat and melodic rhythm on classroom instruments.
• identify similar and different patterns by listening to examples and songs.
• use appropriate movements to express the mood of selected musical examples.
• read and perform patterns using one or two sounds per beat.
• recognize and perform familiar songs of different cultures.
• create simple song verses and story accompaniments.
• create short melodies for rhymes and poems.
• explore the relationship between stories, poems, and music.
