Three Schools to Make up Lost Days

The three Knox County schools that lost instructional days last week due to loss of utility service will make these days up on Monday, March 11.

Halls Elementary School, Dogwood Elementary School and South-Doyle Middle School students will attend school on March 11. The remainder of the students in the system will be off that day as teachers observe a staff development day. Classes at all three schools were canceled following traffic accidents that caused loss of gas and electric service making it impossible to properly heat the buildings in the early morning hours.

State directives will not allow the use of “banked days” or “weather days” to cover these cancellations because “banked days” are for system wide use and cannot be applied to individual closings.

“In my estimation, this is preferable to extending the school day for the remainder of the year, or taking a Saturday or a day of Spring break,” said School Superintendent Dr. Charles Lindsey.

School busses serving the three affected schools will run a normal schedule to serve students making up the lost days.
