Two
public meetings concerning the proposed re-zoning of Powell and Rocky
Hill Elementary School students have been scheduled. The meetings will
give parents an opportunity to review the zone maps, and to ask questions
about the proposed re-zoning, as well as talk with the school Principals
and tour the schools.
The rezoning actions are necessary to compensate for growth in the Powell
and Rocky Hill Elementary Schools zones, and to permit the school system
to remain in compliance with requirements of the Tennessee Basic Education
Program. As with all rezoning actions, rising fourth and fifth grade students
may be grandfathered to their current school provided parents provide
transportation.
The first meeting will be for students zoned from Powell Elementary School
to Brickey Elementary School.
The meeting will be Dec. 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of Brickey Elementary
School located at 1810 Dry
Gap Pike.
This rezoning action would impact about 116 students, and it will extend
the western boundary of the current Brickey Elementary School zone to
the Following points:
- Beginning
with the Central Avenue Pike and Interstate 75 underpass and proceeding
counter-clockwise
- All
property boundaries with primary entrances adjoining the west side of
Central Avenue Pike to the East Emory Road intersection
- All
property boundaries with primary entrances adjoining the west side of
Heiskell Road from the East Emory Road intersection to Wakebridge Boulevard
- All
properties east of the centerline of Heiskell Road and south of Gardner
Lane with primary entrances accessed from Heiskell Road
- All
properties located north of East Emory Road with primary entrances accessed
from the intersection of
- Blueberry
Road and East Emory Road and continuing to the center of Interstate
75
The second meeting will be for students zoned from Rocky Hill Elementary
School to Sequoyah Elementary School. The meeting will be Dec. 5 at
6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of Sequoyah Elementary School located at
942 South Gate Road.
This rezoning action would impact about 70 students, and would include
students living in the following
areas:
- Cherokee
Springs Way
- East
of Wright's Ferry Road and south of Dogwood Drive to the intersection
of Dogwood Drive, Whitower Drive, and Crystal Lake Drive
- All
residences on roads east of the three-way intersection of Dogwood Drive,
Crystal Lake Drive, and Whitower Drive
- West
