KCS celebrates 56 years of the National School Lunch Program
Students at Norwood Elementary School will join with state and local school officials as well as several members of the Knox County Commission at 10:00 a.m. on October 11 at Norwood Elementary School to kick off National School Lunch Week.

Each year, National School Lunch Week is celebrated to highlight the important contributions of the National School Lunch Program to our children's health and well being for the last 56 years. The Knox County Schools Food Service Department serves over 6.5 million nutritious meals every year to the over 52,000 students of Knox County’s 86 public schools.

Students at Norwood Elementary School will be joined by Dr. Betty Burns, the Regional Nutrition Director for the Tennessee Department of Education, in a patriotic program marking the beginning of this year’s celebration. The theme for this year’s National School Lunch Week is “Stars, Stripes and School Lunch.”

Media interested in the event may contact either Norwood Elementary School or the Knox County Schools Public Affairs Office.
