DATE:August 22, 2001 KCS Offers GED Prep Classes

The Knox County Schools Adult Education Program will offer GED NOW!, a free six week course designed to quickly prepare an individual to pass the GED exam from Sept. 25 to Nov. 3.

The Knox County Schools Adult Education Program is strongly urging anyone in Knox County who has not completed high school to prepare to take the General Education Development Diploma exam now according to Neil Battle, an adult education specialist with Knox County Schools. “The test will change as of January 1, 2002 and many new skills will be measured,” said Battle.

Applicants will be administered a screening test and then a GED Official Practice Test to determine whether a person can pass the test, and if not, in what areas need additional study. The GED NOW! fast track session will be held Sept. 25 – Nov. 3. Students will study only those areas in which they have some deficiency and, by attending the session, will be assisted in assuring a place at a GED Testing Center.

“GED Testing Centers are filling up their testing dates very quickly,” said Battle, “but they are working with Adult Education Programs to provide additional testing for those students who have enrolled in the GED NOW! classes.”

“If your high school equivalency is still a piece of unfinished business in your life, now is the time to complete it,” Battle urges. “The Knox County Schools Adult Education Program has trained GED instructors to help you meet this goal. All information given them is confidential, and the classes are free.”
