| Over 40 Knox County Schools vocational students are attending the Technology Academy Of Excellence at Fulton High School in two sessions over the next two weeks. This is the 13th year that Knox County Schools has conducted the academy. The program is designed to recognize outstanding vocational students from various technical disciplines who have completed their junior year in high school. The Technology Academy of Excellence provides a setting for quality instruction for those students selected as leaders in their particular fields of interest. The TAE program is sponsored by Knox County Schools and is coordinated and supported by the Vocational Education Advisory Committee, local businesses, and interested people from local school communities. The 2001 Academy is being held during the weeks of May 28-June 1 and June 4-8 at Fulton High School. The weeks will be filled with visits to businesses and industrial sites as well as presentations from motivational speakers involved in the world of work. Students will visit a number of local businesses and government offices including DeRoyal Industries, Prestige Cleaners, Pellissippi State Community College, IPIX, Ruby Tuesday Corporate Headquarters, The University of Tennessee, City/County Building, Chamber of Commerce, Hilton, United Parcel Service, WBIR, UT Hospital, Toyota of Knoxville, Modem Supply, and the 911 Center. Visits are designed to acquaint the students with the many career opportunities available to them. Students also learn what prospective employers look for when they hire new employees. The students will experience firsthand what managers in human resources look for in the job interview and the resume. |
