Welcome to “Teacher U.” TeacherU is the main vehicle through which KCS employees can manage their professional development. You will
TeacherU can be utilized for school-based as well as system-wide activities. If you want to lead an inservice session, you will be able to go through your school administrator, who will both approve and post the session on TeacherU. Beginning in the 2008-2009 school year, all unscheduled inservice credit will be recorded through TeacherU. Online and Distant Learning OpportunitiesThe Professional Development Center continues to make available opportunities for distant learning so that the flexibility and convenience of professional development can be enhanced. If you search the course catalog for Online Courses, you will find all courses currently available. These are available to both certified and classified employees. You will want to read the description of the courses and the directions related to registration and evaluations; each course has unique information. Upon completion of the course, you will need to "Request an Out of District Transfer Credit", found on the course catalogue, and send to the PDC documentation of completion. TASL CreditIn accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated 49-5-5703, school administrators and supervisors employed in positions in which fifty percent or more of their time is spent delivering instructional services to teachers, principals and/or other instructional, administrative or supervisor/directory personnel, are presently required to attend 72 hours of TASL-sponsored activities during every five-year period. As administrators finish their current five year cycle, a new two year cycle will begin which requires 28 hours of TASL approved activity. This requirement is optional for principals, supervisors, or other administrators with fifteen or more years of experience as a principal, supervisor, or other administrator unless the local board of education requires such attendance. All TASL-approved programs are comparable in quality and address national standards of competence for school administrators, the Master Plan for Tennessee, other state initiatives, and/or local goals and needs.
