5choicesGreen Magnet combines an interest in mathematics and/or science with real world investigations for the curious student.  This integrated program allows all ability lovers of science and math to learn together as they explore natural wonders, principals of physics and the discipline of problem solving.

Real world investigations and applications are found as students choose from projects including: Robotics; Greenhouse, Gardens and Grounds; Galaxy Mysteries; Box Turtles, and Math And Science Know-It-All TV.

Students use a Know, Want to Learn, Learned (K-W-L) charting process to track and document learning.  Partnerships such as those formed for the Box Turtle Project combine the efforts and expertise from IJAMS Nature Center and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The UT College of Veterinary Medicine supports reading across the curriculum with the Ruff Reading Program.

Academic areas of reading and math are taught through a research based multi-sensory Success for All and Move It Math approach.

Mathematics and Science Specialists work with teachers to bring the classroom to the lab and the lab to the classroom. Students find math and science relationships throughout the school day in the core academics as well as extended courses.

Extended Activities: African Drumming, String Art, Power Point, Web Page Design and the after school Unicycle Program are examples of extended activities.

GRADGreen is one of 14 Project GRAD schools in the Knox County System.
