5choicesAustin-East Performing Arts and Sciences Magnet High School is a program continuation for all magnet students and a beginning opportunity for a student entering high school. All Knox County Schools students are eligible through the transfer process.

Environmental Sciences:
Students selecting the Program for the Environmental Sciences will find exclusive curriculum, university collaboration and environmental adventure experiences during each of their four attendance years. 

Coursework includes Honors Biology and Chemistry; Anatomy and Physiology; Environmental Geology; Oceanography; Ecology of the Smoky Mountains; Astronomy; AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science will prepare the student for Fall and Spring Environmental Experiences.  Service and professional learning experiences are conducted through the collaborative efforts of classroom teachers, university staff and scientists in the field and culminate with a product from the senior student. 

Performing Arts:
In Performing Arts, classroom teachers are artists who teach technique and performance skills in the selected art form.  Original works, performance or exhibitions in local, state and nation venues provide art portfolio collection opportunities throughout the four-year experience.  Artists of national repute regularly contribute to specific courses, weekend conferences or summer intensives to expand and advance artistic excellence.  Networking and mentoring in the art world is conducted on behalf of the student for work experience and/or university entry. 

Coursework includes: Introductory through AP classes in various art mediums; Drama; Musical Theater; Stage Technology; four levels of dance in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, West African; Choreography; four levels of Orchestra, Marching Band, Jazz Band and Concert Band; Accompaniment; Djembe; Choral, Ensemble, and Gospel Music; Keyboard; Organ and Music Theory (AP).  Individual attention guides the student to maximize the talent and scope of each artistic endeavor.  "Dance Company" is offered for Advanced Dance students.

Information Technology:
Information Technology begins in the television broadcasting studio and culminates with the skills for professional editing and documentary production.  Motion capture, sound mixing and recording provide unique expansions for the advanced student. Collaborative work between teachers and entertainment professionals provides students with the necessary skills to enter the world of work or to continue post high school education.

Additional Programs:
Austin-East Performing Arts and Sciences Magnet High has a full schedule of leveled academic courses, ROTC, Career and Technical Education, Arts, Physical Education and Lifetime Wellness.  Extra-curricular clubs and activities, internships, competitions, sports and performances complete the total program for the interested student.  The National Academy Foundation offers Austin-East students an Academy of Finance & Business. The Academy incorporates school-to-career opportunities, Knoxville business mentors, paid internships, college level coursework, and a rigorous curriculum in business, finance and marketing.  

Additionally, Austin-East is one of two Project GRAD High Schools in Knox County Schools.  Upon satisfactory completion of Project GRAD requirements, students are eligible for scholarships for any higher education program.

GRADAustin-East is one of 14 Project GRAD schools in the Knox County System.
