Information and Guidelines

for using

Knox County Schools Mail Services

Mail Pick Up Area

The school mail trucks begin delivery and pick up on the first day that principals

and secretaries return for opening of school. Each school or location has been

assigned a route and days that school mail will be delivered and picked up. All

deliveries and pick up of school mail, boxes, etc. will be made to only one location in the school. This location chosen by you will be called your “Mail Pick Up Area”.

School mail will be delivered in a gray, heavyweight, plastic box labeled “Knox

County Schools Media Center”, and they are to be used only for school mail from your school or location. Mail only should be placed in this box. Things such as overheads, boxes, etc. should be placed near the gray box.

  • It is extremely important that all mail, boxes, packages, etc. be clearly marked with the receiving person’s location, route code, and name.
  • Include complete name of location such as, Farragut Intermediate  [70], 5th Avenue Maintenance, Andrew Johnson Building, etc.
  • Certain items should be placed in Mail Pick Up area.
    • These items are AV and Computer Equipment for repair, Cataloging Department Materials, Textbooks for Textbook Department, and Boxes/Items going to Central Office or transferring to another school or location.

Discard Pick Up Area

It is extremely critical that this area be located away from the Mail Pick Up Area.

Each year we lose valuable resources when new or reusable materials get mixed in with these items. We ask that this area be located near an outside door for ease of pick up and out of sight in case of a delay in pick up.

The items placed in this location should include: AV Equipment no longer needed, AV Materials for discard, Computers for discard or surplus, Library Books for discard, and Textbooks for discard.

  • Boxes for these items are not to be larger than copy paper boxes and not weigh over 50 lbs.
  • Labels for these items can be downloaded from the Knox County Schools website at the “Forms” page, under the MC-Media-Material Center subheading.

A School Mail Pick Up request form for items in this area only must be sent to

Knox Central Building, John Whaley, or faxed to 594-3828. This request form (MC-115) can be downloaded from the Knox County Schools website at the “Forms” page, under the MC-Media-Material Center subheading.
