Knox County Schools Hearing Services: Types of Services

 

CONSULTATION
Consultative hearing services are provided to the regular classroom teacher, other Special Education and Speech/Language personnel, and other school staff.  The frequency of these services is based on the needs of each eligible student who is deaf and hearing impaired and determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.

DIRECT HEARING SERVICES
Direct hearing services are provided by the Hearing Specialist(s) to eligible students who are deaf and hearing impaired based on individual need and determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.  Services are provided at the child’s zoned school or at one of the site based programs.

RELATED SERVICES
Audiological services are provided by the Audiologist to eligible students who are deaf and hearing impaired.  The frequency of services is based on need and determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.

INTERPRETER SERVICES
Educational interpreters provide interpreter/transliterating services for eligible students who are deaf and hearing impaired based on need as determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.

Students who are deaf and hearing impaired within Knox County may also receive services from other Special Education personnel if a need is determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team (Resource, Comprehensive Developmental Classroom Teacher, Speech/Language, Occupational/Physical Therapy, Vision)
