ELEMENTARY SITE BASED HEARING PROGRAMS (kindergarten – grade 5)

ORAL/AURAL SITE BASED PROGRAM
The oral/aural sited based hearing program is presently located at Bearden Elementary School, Kindergarten through grade 5.

• Hearing services are provided to students who are hearing impaired based on need as
• determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team.
• Emphasizes oral/aural and Verbotonal methodologies.
• Various amplification systems utilized (hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM Systems).
• Intensive speech, language, and auditory training on a daily basis.
• Emphasis on communication and academic skill development.
• Academic instruction provided by the hearing specialist(s) and the general education teacher.
• Students are integrated with the general education classrooms for special areas (music, physical education, art, library, lunch, and recess).
• Students may be integrated with the general education curriculum for reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies.
• On site audiological services are provided by the audiologist as needed.
• Additional special education services provided as needed (resource, speech/language, occupational/physical therapy).
