Mount Olive Elementary Celebrates Mentoring Success

Powerful things happen when young people have the opportunity to spend quality time with caring adults. Mount Olive Elementary School has developed a model mentoring program, Helping Hands Helping Hearts Grow, involving nearly 40 adult volunteers who spend time each week with students from the school

Lake Hills Presbyterian Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church in South Knox County have made commitments to actively seek church members who have the desire to invest in the lives of young people. The school celebrated the service of these caring adults with a celebration pizza party at Mount Olive Elementary on May19. There were hugs, smiles, thank you cards, and high-fives all around as the students and their mentors closed out a successful year

Mount Olive Baptist Church recently formalized their relationship with the school as a Partner In Education. The church, located directly across Maryville Pike from Mount Olive Elementary, is meeting other needs identified by the school in addition to the valuable time given by church members as mentors.

Special thanks go out to Mount Olive Elementary Principal Darlene Miller, and Guidance Counselor Michelle Brewer for their efforts in developing this initiative to positively impact young lives.
