TAG Student
What students benefit from TAG?

TAG is for high academic achievers who want or need the additional challenge offered by higher level thinking projects, in-depth research, or development of a particular area of interest.

What do students do in TAG?
TAG is a process-oriented approach to learning that allows students to extend and explore the curriculum.  They work in small groups, with partners, and individually to demonstrate learning through projects, products, and presentations.
Must all who qualify participate?

StudentThis is a choice.  With written parental permission, a child may choose not to participate in TAG.

Must students qualify for TAG each year?

TAG students begin in 3rd grade.  The 3rd grade year serves as an apprentice year.  At the end of the year, students must meet the 4th and 5th grade criteria.  TAG teachers will inform parents of eligibility.

What are the criteria for third graders?

Students must be above average readers, score at least 95% or the 2nd grade Language Arts end of year test, and score at least 95% on the 2nd grade math cumulative end of year test.

Students must score in the top 20% of each grade level at each school on the 2nd grade Language Arts end of year test and 2nd grade math cumulative end of year test.  A referral by the teacher is mandatory.

What are the criteria for 4th – 5th graders?

StudentStudents must meet intellectually gifted guidelines as determined by the State of Tennessee.  Students must receive a score of 95% on the TCAP standardized scores in both Reading/Language Arts and Math.

Reading and Math TCAP scores must be in the top 20% of each grade level at each school.  A referral by the teacher is also mandatory.

A teacher, parent, or student must make a referral.  The TAG teacher will gather information and eligibility will be determined.

Can a child be removed from TAG?

Yes.  Occasionally students do not achieve success in Tag.  The TAG teacher will notify the parent and set up a conference to discuss concerns.

What can my child expect from being in TAG?

StudentsTAG is an enrichment program for self-motivated, high achievers.  Success in TAG comes mainly from each student’s internal motivation and is dependent upon attitude, behavior, teamwork, cooperation, and willingness to work toward a goal.
