Mission

To facilitate implementation of the district’s mission through organizational and professional development services.

Goal

To contribute to the professional and personal growth of educators in order to facilitate increases in student achievement.

Facility

The Staff Development department’s Professional Development Center operates a training center for teachers, district administrators, supervisors, support staff, and the SDE.  Meeting rooms are available for various sessions to be held.  This facility has and is being renovated to accommodate the growing need for professional development within the school system.

The Technology Center is located on the second floor of the Sarah Simpson PDTC.

Directions to the Center

From Downtown via Henley Street:

• From Henley Street Bridge, travel south on Chapman Highway.

• Turn left onto Woodlawn Pike (traffic light at BP Station ).

• Turn at the first left onto Ellis Street.

• Ellis becomes Tipton Avenue as it turns right.

• Sarah Simpson Professional Development Center is on left just past Dogwood Elementary School.

From the new South Knoxville Connector:

• Follow the James White Parkway signs to South Knoxville, crossing the river on the South Knoxville Blvd.

• Travel until you reach the end of the boulevard where you will be forced to exit right onto Davenport.Continue on Davenport for a brief distance, moving to the right lane and continuing to the stop sign.   (Note that the following three right turns are in quick succession).

• At the stop sign turn right onto Sevierville Pike.

• At the first traffic light, turn right onto Woodlawn. Immediately turn right again onto Moody Avenue.

• Turn at the second left onto Tipton Avenue.

• Sarah Simpson Professional Development Center is on the right just before Dogwood Elementary School.
