Tennessee Scholars Course of Study

The Tennessee Scholars program is a rewards and recognition program for high school students, sponsored by the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tennessee Scholars are high school students who complete a rigorous curriculum and reach a high level of skill in several areas so they are ready for any post-secondary endeavor such as the work force or higher education.

English   4 Credits
Math * (must include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, 1 higher level)   4 Credits
Science (Biology I, 2 additional lab sciences)   3 Credits
Social Sciences **   3 Credits
World Language courses in the same language
and/or 2 Technical courses in the same technical track
[to complete a university/technical (dual) path would add 2 related technical courses]
  2 Credits
Health/Wellness   1 Credit
Business/Computer Related course   1 Credit
Fine Arts   1 Credit
Technical Courses in the same technical track   2 Credits
AP Course / Dual Credit   1 Credit
       and or    
Industry Certification in a Vocational/Technical Field

This proposed course of study exceeds the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) requirements for admission to TBR schools and the University of Tennessee as well as the requirements for the University Path as defined by the State Board of Education. Students wishing to complete the combined University/Technical (Dual) Path would add two related technical courses to meet completer status and take a math course in the senior year.

  • Additional Expectations
  • 20 hours of community service documented over 4 years
  • Overall 2.5 GPA or higher in all courses.
  • 95% attendance
  • No out-of-school suspensions
  • Successful passing of state assessments (Gateway)

* Technical Algebra can substitute for Algebra I.
** State requirements are: U.S. History, World History/World Geography,
1/2 Economics, 1/2 American Government.
