Planning to retire? Start the paperwork early. . .Any employee who is interested in retiring or resigning should contact the Employee Benefits Department 60-90 days before their last day of employment for an appointment where information and the paperwork to continue their benefits after retirement can be discussed. (Download 90-Day Retirement Notice form) Please note we have been told by TCRS that it is currently taking 60-90 days to process health insurance applications to continue insurance after retirement. It is very important that we have your paperwork 60-90 days prior to retirement so there are no problems with your health insurance when you retire. We will send a letter and the paperwork that needs to be completed before your meeting so you can review it and obtain the appropriate signatures. You may contact our office at 865-594-1686 to schedule an appointment. Please note if you show up without an appointment a staff member may not be able to meet with you that day and you will be asked to schedule an appointment. Certified EmployeesThose employees covered under the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System. This includes teachers and others who are issued a license by the Department of Education. Beneficiary – Employees that need to change their beneficiary due to marriage, divorce, or choice must complete the Change of Beneficiary form. Please note this form must be notarized. Employees may bring the form in person to Employee Benefits along with identification and a staff member will notarize the form. (Change of Beneficiary form link) Classified EmployeesThose employees covered under a Knox County Government Retirement Plan. This includes support staff such as custodians, food service workers, teacher assistants, secretaries, etc. BeneficiaryEmployees that need to change their beneficiary due to marriage, divorce, or choice must complete the Change of Beneficiary form. Post Medical Retirementclassified employees can contribute money to help pay for medical expenses and insurance premiums after retirement. Upon enrollment employees are 100% invested in the money deposited in the account. Retirement contributionsEligible employees are required to contribute 6% of their pay to the Plan. This amount is matched 100% by the Knox County Schools. In addition to the mandatory pre-tax contribution employees may contribute up to an additional 9% which is unmatched. This amount can be changed by completing a new enrollment/change form. classified employees participating in Knox County Government plansclassified employees who are not former City A employees but participate in one of the Knox County Government Retirement Plans need to also schedule a meeting with the Knox County Government Retirement office by calling 215-2323. Classified former City A employeesclassified Former City A employees need to complete paperwork with Employee Benefits
