“May the whisper grow into a mighty shout throughout
the land until all mankind takes it up as the battle cry
for the closing years of the century. Let mothers,
fathers, nurses, educators, ministers, legislators, and mightiest
of all in its swift, far-reaching influence, the press, make
the child the watchword and ward of the day and hour; let
all else be secondary, and coming generations will behold
a new world and a new people.”

Special Projects
Knox County Schools / PTA Clothing Center
Knox County Council PTA and the Knox County Schools offer a
unique service to the students enrolled in our schools. Since
its opening in 1936, the purpose of the Clothing Center has
been to provide clothing assistance for students. Over
2,000 students are served annually and 50,000+ articles of
clothing (new & used) distributed. With the help
of United Way, Knox County Government, PTA’s and individuals,
the center helps children have the clothing needed to attend
school regularly. This helps to improve a child’s
self-esteem, which leads to improved educational readiness. Referrals
come from your child’s Principal, School Secretary,
Guidance Counselor, or Social Worker. Each child served
by the center receives new items, including jeans, socks
and underwear, and a number of reconditioned items. Each
child may also receive one coat or jacket per year based
on availability.
Knox County Schools / PTA Teacher Supply Depot
The Teacher Supply Depot is a free store where Knox County’s
public school teachers and teacher assistants can obtain
items to enhance their classroom learning. PTAs, parents,
and local businesses are encouraged to keep the depot stocked
with much needed items for our teachers and students.
Alice B. Deeds Memorial Scholarship
The Scholarships are given in honor of Mrs. Alice B. Deeds,
who was president of the Knox County Council PTA from 1968
to 1970. Mrs. Deeds served many dedicated years in
PTA and was killed in a car accident while returning from
a PTA meeting.
Knox County Council PTA offers scholarships to seniors seeking
to extend their education past high school. This fund
exists through donations from the Knox County PTAs and other
interested individuals, and through those donations we are
able to help deserving students from Knox County. Approximately
50 applications are received each year from very deserving
seniors all across Knox County.
